NATIONAL ART MUSEUM OF ANDORRA
NATIONAL ART MUSEUM OF ANDORRA
Turó means “hill” in Catalan. Andorra’s landscape shapes its identity, reflected in the National Museum’s design, which seamlessly blends with the natural terrain. Rising 20 metres above the city, the museum becomes a landmark within the urban fabric while offering both cultural and green public space.
Underground, a central sculpture hall is surrounded by exhibition galleries. Since 2008, the once-busy road in front of the site has transformed into a promenade, encouraging the museum plaza to connect naturally with Av. Meritxell. The shaded public space integrates with the surrounding buildings, forming an urban cultural hub.
The building’s sculptural form resembles a hill, opening to the north and merging with the street to the west. Repetitive structural steel ribs create its distinctive form, while glass between them allows natural light to filter through. By day, the interior takes on a church-like ambience; at night, the museum glows like a lantern.
